About Us

Wellspring Women’s Center is a drop-in center in the Oak Park community of Sacramento, established in 1987. Our mission: to nurture the innate goodness and personal self-esteem of women and their children.  Our center provides respite services based on “hospitality with dignity and love.” We do that by: welcoming up to 200 women and children each weekday into our light-filled space decorated with our guests’ creations; serving  nutritious breakfasts (35,365 meals in 2019); distributing safety-net items including bus tickets, diapers, hygiene items; providing counseling, case management, education support, referrals; advocating social justice; offering wellness activities.  Everything is offered free of charge. Any woman and child are welcome – no questions asked, no paperwork to fill out, no eligibility requirements.

The Women’s Wellness Program and Art of Being were created at Wellspring to “enhance the well-being of our guests and community through the provision of social work services and by creating opportunities for healing, community development, empowerment, creativity, and fun.”

Since 2012 the Art of Being program has contributed to Sacramento’s Creative Economy, generating a positive social impact and promoting cultural and racial equity by: offering creative and cultural activities to celebrate our diverse community in Oak Park and surrounding neighborhoods; offering expressive therapy using the healing potential of art to address trauma; and offering art & craft workshops to expose women to the joy of learning a new skill and creating art for themselves, their families, and community. All creative opportunities are offered for free within a trusted neighborhood gathering place.
